Hello! Just dropping in to share a fun super quick drawing I made, called "The Cloudmaker". Rough concept for a possible painting, thought up/sketched up on the subway ride home one day. I'm really into machinery right now!

Having Fun

My husband has a primary goal when writing a song: to entertain himself. I've been doing a lot of thinking about what this means. It means removing the inner critic. It means removing expectations. Removing fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of making a mistake, fear of wasting time. Claes Oldenburg is an artist who was able to truly embrace this idea, at least it seems that way to me. Below, some of my favorite pieces from his current NYC exhibit.

Another discarded album cover. The cool concept was Chris's idea, and I'm again happy with the execution. The problem is size and readability. Oh well!

I was thrilled to discover my alphabet poster was featured on Apartment Therapy last week. It's especially validating, as a mostly commercial artist, to get recognition for the work I do completely on my own. A nice thought to return to when I'm toiling away on the umpteenth revision of a design for my day job.

I've been messing around with ideas for my husband's upcoming album cover. This was one we discarded, but I liked how it turned out.

Shopping List

These days all of my professional artwork is done on a computer. Maybe that's why I've felt such an urge to use my brush pens lately...even to make a shopping list.

I had most of the summer off from my main job, so nice. The above pics were taken at a nearby park. Penny and I got in the habit of taking the bus there and picking wildflowers in the late afternoon, all by ourselves. We'd bring a ball to kick around but usually ended up just sitting and watching and talking. Now it's fall, I'm back at work, Penny is back at school, and Chris and I are back to our long, busy days.
